The 5 Biblical Hindrances to Prosperity - Pt. 1

  [The Pastor's Heart]
04/06/2010
By Admin, Admin

In our Freedom Worship Center Sunday services for the last month, the Lord has placed on my heart to teach our members the
"5 Biblical Hindrances to Prosperity".  I thank God for such a timely message as the economy is still recovering and people need
something solid to
anchor their faith in. Based on what I know is contained in the Bible, I have good news for you.

God wants you to prosper.

Yes, He does. But what we don't know can hurt us. As I was in a service in Dr. Cho's Church at the beginning of the year,
the Spirit of the Lord impressed on my heart 5 Biblical Hindrances to Prosperity. It came clearly and quickly as I quickly
typed it into my iphone notes. Most of them were things I had heard preached over the years, but I never saw all of them
together in a list. And they all came from the Scriptures! It was then that I knew that the Lord wanted His people to prosper.
The first thing we have to do is remove the hindrances so the prosperity of God can flow! Break the curse and the blessings
will follow! Break the chains and we will be free! Hallelujah!

Hindrance # 1 - Loving Sleep

Read Proverbs 20:13 and you'll see what God means.

So many people love sleep. I know I did. I would wake up at noon as a teenager and college student. This was before I held
a  career job or answered the call to ministry, but I understand where people are coming from. We'd rather nap than work. Sleep than
pray (kind of like the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane). It's this attitude that is keeping prosperity away and poverty near.
If we can shift our thinking to imitate the Lord, who is the hardest working God in the universe! He worked 6 days and rested
on the 7th! Wow! And this is not because He has to! He can do anything He wants.

He chose to work.

When we look at how diligent
the Lord is and copy Him in whatever we do, we will see that God-given opportunities will open for us. God will see that we are good and faithful stewards that He can trust us with prosperity. God's plan for prosperity is not a get-rich-quick one!

I can hear people thinking, but I thought God wanted me to rest in Him? He does for your salvation, but not for your finances.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the believers at Thessalonica that if "they didn't work, they didn't eat" (II Thessalonians 3:10-13).
Evan Adam had a job. That was to till the garden of Eden. The difference was that after the fall, the same work wouldn't produce
for him like it did before the fall. He'd have to sweat a lot more and see thorns grow along with the good seed. But guess what?

We are redeemed!

That means the work we do should produce abundantly because we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ! Glory to God!
It does not mean that we don't work any more. Think of Joseph whom God had blessed as a slave and a prisioner. Everything he did prospered! Whether that's in the work of the Lord or the work of making tents like the Apostle Paul. Or catching an abundance of fish like Peter, James and John when they met Jesus.

"The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to
bless all the work of your hands." - Deuternomony 28:12

Let's put sleep where it belongs and work where it belongs and we'll see the blessings of the Lord manifesting in our lives.
I will touch on Hindrance #2 in the next blog. It's time for you to possess what you've confessed! After all, we are God's co-workers.
